Lennie Rosenbluth (F), UNC: Different Era? So what? A great player is a great player. Took UNC to the
1957 national title, defeating the Wilt Chamberlain-led Kansas Jayhawks. Imagine it: Carolina with no one within
a half-foot in height to The Stilt, yet they hold him to only 13 shots, winning in triple overtime - one of the
all-time classic NCAA games, and Rosenbluth was the man (though he did foul out with 1:45 left to go in regulation).
National Player of the Year that year and Final Four MVP. Larry Miller (F), UNC: Led UNC to ACC championships and Final Four appearances in 1967 and '68. First-team
All-American and ACC Player of the Year the same years. One of only two players to twice win ACC Tournament MVP.
Miller had that certain something that just made things happen. Danny Ferry (C), Duke: The only player in ACC history with 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists.
National Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year in 1989. Two-time ACC Athlete of the Year. Some of the honorable
mention guys below were actually better. But the team needed a post player. Charlie Scott (G), UNC: The first African-American player at UNC and one of the first in the ACC. (Billy
Jones was the first, at Maryland, in 1965, followed the next year by Duke's C.B. Claiborne and Maryland's Pete
Johnson, then Scott arrived in '67.) Scott was a two-time first-team All-American and helped UNC to ACC championships
and the Final Four in both 1968 and '69. He sure was a pretty player to watch. Johnny Dawkins (G), Duke: National Player of the Year in 1986. First (or second; see "Hemric") on the all-time ACC scoring list. Do a whole butt-load of points make a great player? Of course not. But Dawkins was more than a scorer - an all-round performer and a leader, particularly come tournament time.
